It's Almost Over, part 1 is the ninety-eighth issue of the series and part 1 of a 2-part issue.
God is in heaven, commenting on how Saddam Hussein has just been sentenced to be hanged. Suddenly the Future Writer barges in and pins God to the wall with magic. God is surprised that the Future Writer is able to go this, and the Future Writer says that he is now more powerful than God. Suddenly the Earth darkens and there are several panels of national monuments (the White House, the Statue of Liberty, and the Golden Gate Bridge) being transformed as a dark wave passes over them. The main characters all wonder what is going to happen and how they will stop the Future Writer. Meanwhile, God tells the Future Writer that he can't succeed, but the Future Writer then declares himself God.
- God's appearance in the comic is the exact opposite of the Future Writer. God wears white robes, has short hair, and a beard. The Future Writer wears black robes, has long hair, and no beard. This obviously represents the polar opposite natures of the two.
- The Statue of Liberty goes from holding a stone tablet to holding a Playboy magazine as the dark wave passes over. The Statue is also incorrectly drawn, it is reversed, the left hand is holding the torch and the right hand is holding the tablet/magazine.
